Rio Salado College Creative Writing: Do Writers Need More Community?

Rio Salado College Creative Writing: Do Writers Need More Community?: I think we do , but I am writing this blog to find out if this is true. I suspect writers need a community. Writing is often a lonely busin...

  1. Hi Sue! I'm a firm believer in community, but I think we all define it differently. For me, my first community is my family (husband, daughter) and my second are my critique partners and writing friends(spread out all over the country). They keep me on-task, they let me vent and they encourage me when I'm down.

  2. Thanks Kristina,

My family is a very large part of my community. I have four children and their spouses as well as four grandchildren who have shaped, and will continue to shape my life. But, as I said, they are a part of my own personal community, albeit an extremely large part.

I have no critique partners, although one of my daughters was an English major during her university years and has the capacity and understanding to do a bit of editing for me on occasion. I think it would be nice to have a group of like-minded people that I could speak to about how my writing is going (or not going, as the case may be).
