Reading and Writing

Okay, so this is the first time that I have ever blogged! I know, it shows. I have to say that I know that I will improve in this. It may take some time, but I will. Promise.

I would like to hear from hopeful writers, the ones that are just beginning, because I would like to know what kind of experiences you've had, the difficulties and the disappointments, as well as the exciting positive and uplifting events that have influenced your writing career. I would very much like to hear from published authors who have the experience and knowledge that are an inspiration to me.

Reading is my obsession and the very reason that I can not get any writing done! Once I begin a book, I find myself unable to put it down. Literally. It all began with the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. Oh, I have been reading all of my life, but never obsessively. Not until I met Edward and Bella. I read the entire series no less than thirteen (yes, a one and a three, together) times. I never wanted to pick up any other book in my life. I was obsessed.

That was the beginning of my reading career as I pushed past the obsessive/compulsive behavior. Oh, I am still obsessive and compulsive, just not so focused about it. Now, I read only two or three book per week, and the type of book varies, sometimes greatly. I have many favorite authors, many favorite novels, and many favorite series, all in differing genre.

My tendency is to lean toward the fantastical world of vampire, werewolf, alien, Greek God, and other mythical creatures, but I do stray from that from time to time. The wonderfully exciting world of Diana Gabaldon's Jamie Frasier in her Outlander Series is among my most favorite. In fact, I read them for the first time on my Kindle, but went out and purchased them so that I could share them with my friends and family. I have read them three times (to date), and each time another friend borrows them, I read them again. If you have not yet read any of Ms. Gabaldon's novels, you will need to do this before you die. It is something that should be on everyone's 'bucket list.' Her writing is so powerful that the reader finds themselves in the world that Jamie Frasier and Claire Randell call their own (although, at times that is two separate worlds). This series is a time travel, war, espionage,murder,love story with so many twists and turns that it makes your head spin. Be warned though, you won't want to stop reading them, ever. There are seven novels in the series to date, all of which are about 1,000 pages in length. There are other novels and novella's that are derivatives/prequels (?) to that series, which you will also want to read.
